Immerse yourself in the art of ceramics with this five-day intensive course, designed for all skill levels. This course focuses on sculpting techniques and creating larger, more expressive forms, with a blend of hand-building and wheel-throwing.
Course Overview
Day 1 – Foundations of Hand-Building
- Introduction to working with clay: techniques, tools, and best practices for sculpting.
- Learn essential hand-building methods—pinching, coiling, and slab-building.
- Explore structural integrity and balance for larger pieces.
Day 2 – Refining Forms & Surface Decoration
- Perfect your forms, focusing on details and finishing touches.
- Experiment with surface decoration techniques like carving, stamping, and bold textures.
- Afternoon session: Wheel-throwing demonstration, followed by hands-on practice.
Day 3 – Wheel-Throwing & Trimming
- Trimming demonstration, guiding you through refining thrown pieces.
- Continue working on existing wheel-thrown and hand-built pieces.
Day 4 – Free Personal Projects
- Explore your own creative ideas with individual support and guidance.
- Apply the techniques learned to create unique, personal works.
Day 5 – Final Refinements & Glazing
- Last round of trimming and refining all pieces.
- Afternoon session: Glazing demonstration, introducing color and finishing techniques.
